I am due to take delivery of a new Boxster Spyder in March/April in solid black. My brother has Paintshield on his car and has no complaints. Any other recommendations? Should i do the whole car given the colour or just the front and side areas from road rash/chips, and get a good detailer for the bodywork? I have seen a few reviews of Gtechniq crystal serum which would be a lot cheaper than a whole body wrap.

Any recommendations would be very welcome, as I am undecided on the best option.

Not sure on the protection film as never used it.
But all of my cars over the last 4 years have had Siramik coating, done by Reflectology in Sheffield. Russ is a great guy - 07717 298367

Xpel is used by PCGB on their press fleet & PEC cars and most of the 918's supplied through them; fitted on site in Reading.

Paintshield / just get front half done

I can fully recommend Paintsheild out of Peterborough, I trailered my car down all the way from Scotland. I had them bring in a detailer to coat up the panels not protected by the film with GT CS. I had my front, sills and rear spoiler all protected by film. Call Ann on 01733 390777.

1 year in and have 2 small stone chips on the roof, self healing and you can coat up with a nice wax. Just be careful you must not coat GTCS on any panel your going to

The problem of only having half of a panel covered with film you are left with a edge that can collect excess wax also where you have the film and the uncovered paint you can notice a slight reflective difference, much better to have the whole panel done. After 6 years of ownership I had a few stone impacts on the bonnet near the windscreen. Good job I have the whole bonnet covered. I too used Paintshield , I will be using them again on my next car.

If you do many highway miles get your windscreen done too with Clearplex.

Many paint 'defects' can only really be seen under special lights in the first place, I don't think the film would hide this but stand to be corrected.
Personally I'd be getting the paint checked/corrected before putting the film on, but if it looks good to you as it is then it's probably not essential.

Basically the cars leave the factory and the finish is "ok" - get a good Detailer to spend a couple of days machine polishing and the paintwork will look amazing - really rich and lusterious (image below) , then get them to put CS on the bits your not covering by film , then cover the bits without CS in film - job done . I've just had mine done (full front-PPF) - Pre detailed by Francis (pm for number) and then PPF at Paintshield - Paintshield allow Francis to work out of thier premises pre PPF application .

None of it is cheap and in truth - the PPF is only good value if you are touring / tracking your car and as such you know it's liable to pick up chips or you derive lots of personal value from knowing its there and as such you can drive it without worrying - It's expensive though & I'm pretty sure you could re paint the nose / bonnet at least twice for the same cost as the PPF alone.

Re edges - amazing , the PPF is absolutely clear , most edges are wrapped around so are invisible - the ones that can't be are impossible to see too - it really isn't noticeable at all - Paintshild / Francis were very good .
