Just got some quotes for my daughter from www.confused.com , so decided to take a look for me ( Funny what you do when unemployed)

Currently on a limited mileage policy , which is costing £432 for 5k.

The site came back with protected , 15k at £517 which I thought was pretty good. Worth a look IMHO.

Mine comes up for renewal at the end of March, so I'll be going through the same hoops very soon.

It's a pity there isn't a 'life' insurance that can cover everything. It should be cheaper because if you're driving your Wedge, you won't be at home doing DIY and possibly dropping paint on the carpet. If you're not driving your Wedge, you'll probably be at home reading about one, and so there will be less chance of being burgled. If you're at home reading your Wedge magazine then you can't be playing football and sustaining an injury that needs BUPA treatment. There must be loads of mutually exclusive insurance risks for which we should be able to get a reduction. How about a Wedge Club looking into it?

Anybody have their Wedge insured for business use? I pay about £430 at the moment for a 350i to include Class 1 business use and unlimited mileage. I expect the Class 1 puts the premium up but I'd be interested in others experiences (no, only your motor insurance experiences )

I was pleasantly surprised at the deal I got from Footman James. It is a group policy to cover three of my vehicles and I think it came to about £750 or so for the Wedge, Ferrari and Jag. I believe the Ferrari bit was about £300 - £320 with the Jag at something like £180 - leaving £250 or so for the TVR. Unlimited mileage; don't have to be garaged. One problem is they don't arrange the insurance over the phone, though I think I managed to push this on the principle of the car remaining uncovered by insurance of we didn't do it over the phone.

Note -

This is a classic ins policy, so will not accrue NCB but does include breakdown and one or two other goodies.

As far as I have been aware recently (Oct 2004), Carole Nash are no longer doing classic car insurance because their underwriting company - Axa - have pulled out from the classic car market. Of course, they may have a new company that they deal with now.

I would mention that Axa have been quite difficult to deal with regarding the replacement screen for my Ferrari.

That sort of info IS useful.

I just accept that the aim of the ins. company is to avoid paying out at all costs.

Ba****ds !

It's insured with Allianz Cornhill via Bedford Motor Brokers. It took me a few days of trawling to get the best quote but well worth it at the time.

FWIW, I've made claims against Broker Direct and NFU Mutual who were brilliant and Equity Red Star who were very slow (both times) (Although I may have shot myself in the foot once by insisting on my own repairer.)
