I'm rebuilding my double vanos unit on my 3.2 e36 evo m3 and need just the exhaust barrel. It's the bit you can see the end of if you take the outer cover off the front of the unit that has three bolts. The head of it has three small holes in a line.

Does anyone have a junk unit that may have one of these in it or can advise where to try? It's not listed by bmw and mine's not reusable.

If that's the uk one, yes. Tried contacting them via phone and email about a month ago before i started the rebuild and got no reply. Tried a few times.

I'm boned if i can't find one, they aren't listed as a part by bmw.

He is UK-based, but I don't think that he's the only one.

I'd be very surprised if you would get one as salvage unless some unlucky sod has totally trashed their S50.

I still think your best bet is to try Dr Vanos (or similar) after the holidays.

Can you post an image of the damage? I have an S50 in my M Roadster and may be able to suggest something if I can see the problem.

You can see the edge of the crown has broken off. I've emailed a few m breakers but nothing yet.

Looks like you have no option but to get a spare. It would be horrendously expensive to get one made as it looks like it's sintered steel.

My vanos is made by Rolls Royce. I presume that yours is as well. As a last resort, you could try contacting them, but I don't think it will be much use as they will have stopped production nearly 20 years ago.

Personally, I think that you are going to have to budget on an exchange vanos unit from Dr Vanos (or similar). Anything less than £600 will be a saving.

Sorry frown

Cheers Pingu, mine's RR too.

Just as info, I got a contact from the guy at Beisan systems. The company is called vano-tech.de and were very helpful.
