SLK 230 Compressor stuck in limp home gear

Hi guys
Sorry if this has been done elsewhere but my wife's SLK seems to be in limp home mode.
You can select drive neutral and reverse but it will not.change gears. After moving the car it will not allow selection of park. Cannot check the levels as there is no dip stick any ideas please
