Mrs S wants to build a website which will only provide information and details of 1 product which has 3 variants and also play video of said product. It doesn't need to be a full e-commerce site as we will not be taking orders or payment online.
It has to be simple to set up and simple to use. What can you recommend,is there a site that sticks out or is far better than another?

I've not used it before, but LeadPages might work. Very simple template editor and you can usually slap a video and comparison table on the site. Possibly too simple for you though.

For something that simple look at Wix and any of the site builders that most domain registrars offer such as 123-reg.co.uk

Shopify, keep it simple.

There are quite a few different "rental" site options out there for e-commerce. Shopify can handle most sizes of site, but it does seem really geared for smaller sites, there are loads of nice micro-site templates around especially for arty products.

You could have a fully finished site up and running and looking good in an hour or two ready to take orders, plenty of features, nice phone app etc.

Anything other than that will cost time and money and maintenance in the long run.

I agree - I went with BigCommerce in the end but check them both out...

Just the usual, shopify, volusion, blue parks, big eccomerce etc. (its all i can remember off the top of my head)
I like shopify templates, i dont like how there prices where in $ i just like to know what i pay in £ each month. (may have changed not looked in a while) Even premium templates where relatively cheap, with phone pages and tablet built in. Got many great add ons etc. Had to leave your site to pay for your items unless paying for a good package. (any site that does that my mum doesnt trust so plenty others wont either, unless you know about ecommerce you'll think "whats a shopify, thats not emmogies for sale etc")

volusion, seem'd very good priced in £ but to get a good template that includes phones and tablets (google ranks on this now) they take the p*** on pricing. (or did, not looked into this for a while)

blue park. Nice and cheap. From the uk. Good enough features for what i wanted but then i seen other peoples mobile site. Put me off. Looked rubbish. Maybe the 4 sites i seen where an old template...

As you see just look at them all and see what suits you best. Ill be starting a new venture this coming year so as you can see, still very undecided at the moment, and need to get back to having a look at them. Until then ill continue saving my blog posts, so i have a backlog built up.

Its the ski season and i have no time to do any of this until its over... unless this snow stays away anymore...

How are you finding BigCommerce? We may have to change. Currently on Magento but may swap to BigCommerce, developing Magento costs far too much.

I went with BC after looking at options - the control over URL strings meant I could replicate all my old site links. I don't like the checkout steps on any of the platforms so using a custom checkout page. The support has been better than acceptable and it all seems stable. Can't complain.
