dash cam not working properly
Discussion
I bought a dash cam from Halfords in August 2014. It was working fine but recently has started to cut out for several seconds before resuming recording. This is obviously problematic because it could cut out when I need it to be recording.
I don't have the receipt at hand. I have a bank statement saying £150 was spent at Halfords on a day in August and the click and collect order number for same day.
Do I have any rights to a repair/replacement in light of the above? Or has everything happened too late or nothing can be done without till receipt?

If it's not hardwired have you tried it in another car?
In the interests of eliminating your own car's electrics it could be worth doing.

also can the unit's software/firmware be updated by plugging it into a PC and downloading an update from the manufacturer's website? It could be a bug in the current firmware that causes the unit to crash and reset, possibly. There might be an update to resolve this, if it is this of course.

Thank you for all the suggestions
I'll try them all although I'm pretty sure the problem is with the dashcam, not the electrics. Cutting of recording cannot be because of electrics because the unit has a power reserve. The wiring is there merely to keep the power topped up
Well maybe the power reserve is defective and the reserve is not keeping it going when the power becomes disconnected.I'll try them all although I'm pretty sure the problem is with the dashcam, not the electrics. Your knowledge of electrical systems indicates you need to take note of the advice given.
The on-board battery could be defective and isn't holding a charge.
As it is a device that is more than a year old it is probably out of guarantee. It certainly is if you don't have a receipt and the guarantee terms.
i had a nextbase 302g and was disappointed with it.
I used once and put it away, got it out a few months later an found the internal battery had died. That meant it lost all settings every time the ignition went off. i have read many positive reviews nextbase cam but I got a refund after a few months and got a mio movie 768 which is very good and has speed cam warnings as well. Also have a transcend 200 in my other car and been pretty impressed.
