Hi guys, one of my winter jobs on the Griff is replacing the ageing fuel pump, filter and fuel hoses (the one from the tank to pump is showing signs of cracks). I have seen Bosch replacements on sites like Racetech Direct, but wanted to assess what others have fitted? Do not want to get caught with a Chinese low quality item!

Also; I do not want to have to take the tank out just to replace the hose to the pump! I believe I saw a thread on here some time back where someone had cut a hole in the floor of the boot to access the tank outlet/hose. Any comments/follow ups on this at all would be apprecited?

All the best, Pete

Personally I'd stick with the Bosch 044 pump, like all things pays her money and takes your choice

I went the whole hog and got a new fuel tank made with a built in swirl pot, and now use a In tank walbro pump,

I;ve just done this myself - Taking the tank out is not hard, will be easier to fit the pipe to the tank when it is out of the car then put it back in assembled. Note there is a filter/ strainer in the tank also. When the tank is out you can replace the other pipes that goto the roll over valve, and form the valve to the copper next to he run to the fuel filter. There is also the vent hose that runs down the other side of the car. Then you will of changed everything from the 3 copper pipes to the rear of the car.

Many thanks Ian, it looks a quality pump. I was going to change the cradle as well as the original is corroded. What hoses did you use, and did you take you tank out to fit? Many thanks, Pete

I was in the same position as you Pete, nothing wrong with the original pump but it was 23yrs old and about the only thing i hadnt replaced on the car. So to be on the safe side thought i`d get it changed.

If you look at Powers site its what they sell as the replacement pump, so figured they must be ok. The reviews on them seemed good as well.

The cradle i just strapped to the chassis with a piece of Stainless plate.

Yes I managed to change the hose from the tank without removing the tank. Certainly on my car it was just about doable.

If you are changing pumps you need to be 100% sure it has enough capacity for the amount of fuel these engines draw at full load- its no small amount. I made the mistake of fitting a different one from Demon Tweaks some years ago, and all seemed well until I started looking at my lambda outputs at full load, and you could see the voltages drop to zero as the engine leaned out as the fuel pressure dropped- not what you want.

Bosch 044 here, no complaints and feeds 573 well enough.

With the increasing methanol content of the fuels, has anyone had experience of the PTFE/Teflon fuel line, allegedly better for methanol etc? I do not want to have to replace the hoses again too soon! What have you used? Regards, Pete
