Hi, looking for some guidance.

Due to occasional clutch slip, oil splattered inside the bell housing, and oil leaking to the rear of the sump, I have the box out of my Chim.

I am 100% sure the box input shaft oil seal is toast - its the main cause of the oil splattered round the bell housing. The car was unused for a few years and I think this can cause problems with seals.

While I am at it, I intend to change the rear crank end oil seal, have the flywheel skimmed, and replace output shaft oil seal.

Questions I'd really like some help with:
1) One of the bolts for the bell housing sheered (2 O'clock looking forward), is it worth the hassle to drill out....there are loads more bolts and 2 dowels....?
2) Is removing the flywheel difficult, or should it just come off once the 6 bolts undone?
3) Once the flywheel is off, should I just be able to dig out the crank end seal, or is there more dis-assembly, perhaps the end plate needs to come off too?
4) Ideas for removing the box output shaft seal? The input shaft seems pretty simple unless I am missing something.
5) I read somewhere that the box output shaft seal should be glued in with a smear of Locktight, but Locktight make 100's of glues, which one? Any old contact adhesive?

Thanks in advance for any replies...

Cheers, and happy new year for Friday.

Dave

1) Id drill it out. But its probably not needed
2) Easy but use the an impact driver its much quicker and they need shocking out.
3) Seal will just hook out with a seal removal tool ( be sure not to mark the running surface
4) Never done it so cant comment ( my mate builds gboxs for a living so I just let him do it)
5) as above
Now im off for a ruby and some shandy.

...I reckon the remaining bolts/dowels will suffice - just be aware of it down the line - can you weld a nut/bolt onto the remaining stud and get it out that way?

2) Is removing the flywheel difficult, or should it just come off once the 6 bolts undone?
...mine came off quite easily - 6 bolts and then pull it off, just be prepared to catch it.

3) Once the flywheel is off, should I just be able to dig out the crank end seal, or is there more dis-assembly, perhaps the end plate needs to come off too?

...no further disassembally - the crank seal should come out with a bit of fishing - just beware not to score any machined surfaces - I used a blunt screw driver....There are also crucifix seals that some people do (I didn't) but I believe that requires the sump off and bearing cap removed (I think)

4) Ideas for removing the box output shaft seal? The input shaft seems pretty simple unless I am missing something.

.... I didn't think to change the gearbox seals when I was in there - perhaps I should have but not had any leaks there that I know of....

Good luck.
