I was wondering if anyone could explain some details of the Paint to Sample process to me?
I am interested in ordering a car in the (not immediate) future in Rubystone Red. I understand that there is an “approved,” list of PTS colours although none of the iterations of said list that I have found online include Rubystone as an approved PTS colour.
Can anyone advise as to how one can make an enquiry as to whether a colour can be added to this list or if Porsche are prepared to produce a car in a specific colour?
I do appreciate that this is a colour that polarises opinions (most believe it’s an accurate colour match to portions of the nether regions of a dog) but I have liked this since it was a MY’92 colour, when I was 13, so if I’m going to order a new car, it may as well be in a moderately mental colour of properly marginal taste! I also appreciate that this colour may have a catastrophic impact on a car’s residual value…and I don’t really care; if I can do this it’s for me and not for the next owner!

Easiest way is to get your OPC to ask Porsche Exclusive in Germany to see if the colour has been approved for the current range.
Its not on the PTS list I have.
There have been posts on other forums by Eduardo to suggest the colour was proposed for the latest RS but rejected by the Porsche exec board in favour of the purple.
This could be either really good news for you (i.e. its already been tried on a 991) or really bad (nobody gets to pick it).
There is a 82N 997.2 RS in the Porsche museum.

I always thought "Paint to Sample" meant "colour matching a sample provided by the customer", not "choosing from a list of pre-determined colours".
It does but those that have been used before end up on a list and thats an easier process. In theory you can take in a chip of paint from your bathroom tiles and they will match it but the process takes months (at least 6 usually) They can do the same with leather too

Personally I think PTS is a relatively "cheap" option as it really differentiates your car and if you pick one of the great colours then it can really add value come resale time on a GT3/4...I think it has much less added value for other Porsche's though can make cars much easier to sell...or harder! Mint Green GTS being a dubious choice I think.

What paint code is Mint Green? It's another excellent colour!Always brightens up a dull day. Along with Rubystone and Maritime Blue, I think these colours look great, especially on GT cars
