So they come on when i first start the car and and the headlight rotary dial is left on 0. once i move the dial right to activate the dipped beam or auto they go off even when i move the dial back to 0.

im new to the car so perhaps being dumb but the owners manual isnt that helpful here so wondering what im doing wrong

they are set to on in the MMI

Doesn't sound right, they should be on all the time unless you've set them to be off in the MMI, it might be worth checking that? They dim when the headlights are on and when inducating but should stay on?

They don't affect the running of the car so don't worry!

ok so def something odd... they dont stay on when the other lights are on. there is a warning light in the dash saying prob with the left side light or drl yet both appear to be fine.

im gonna get myself a ross tech cable and get diagnosing

right so it appears that there is an override possible in vagcom but normally perhaps drls should not be on at the same time as the main headlights...

now the above is clearly a US forum so not sure what the correct protocol is here

This is how they are meant to work. They shine light outside of the cut-off pattern at night, so are switched off when dip is activated.
