Hello All

It is with great sadness that I announce the demised of my Audi A6 2.5 TDI CVT.
After nearly 238000 miles the gearbox has decided to let go.
However the engine was still pulling hard in its advance year.

2003

I really liked the car it was such a good mile muncher.

No one like that engine or gearbox, so I think it did well.
The engine was remapped to about 180bhp!

Well look Jack if you had said your Grandma had croaked or that your mother was now a stiff, or indeed your spaniel was in a box, I would have been sympathetic.

What you have told me is that one more of those God awful diesel cars is now in Hades, which is more a cause of celebration that getting out a box of Kleenex and having a good weep....!

I had a 2001 petrol 2.4 with that gearbox and I really liked it and never had a problem. Both cats went at 115K which killed the car (£800 a pop).

Heard horror stories of peoples gearboxes detonating at 50K.

I just lots drive on my way home.
No explosion, nothing.... Just no more drive and the needle of the speedometer showing a constant 60mph when I was coasting.
It was strange.

Are you going to get the car looked at or just scrap it?

It doesn't sound like the normal multitronic issues. Is the PRNDS flashing on the dash? Were you getting any judders?

The speedo thing points to the speed sensor which IIRC is in or on the multitronic box. Not sure how easy it is to get to or change but if you didn't to ditch the car it might not be completely terminal. Know anyone nearby with VCDS who can scan? The senor will throw a fault code if its knackered.
