I have a 97 4.2 and today the Dipstick snapped right at the top just below the handle. Anyone experienced this and what is the fix, I can get the rest out no problem. Can an equivalent dipstick be installed or do I need to get this one repaired. Thanks

It would be a simple repair, it needs to be the correct length

Thanks, just a bot worried it may happen again its been feeling weak for a while. Metal fatigue from excessive oil level checking use no doubt.!

If you take it to a good metal worker they should be able to fix it with ease, is it the early engine with dipstick at the back of the engine, mine was till it went bang eek now has the dipstick at the front of the engine so much easier to check oil

I've had this before.

It is a normal rover V8 one. Check the length as there are two different ones. I got mine from Ex MOD.

It will arrive straight unlike the curve in your current one. I chanced it and shoved mine in and it came out the right curve.

Yes, my dipstick is at the back of the engine. How did yours go bang then and what did you have done to it that meant you ended up with the dipstick at the front. Second hand newer engine or a rebuild? Cheers

It was one of the jelly engines with the dodgy crank, it snapped in half, pistons came through side of the engine also smashed the heads, fly wheel came apart smashed the clutch and bell housing so from the front of the gearbox it was renewed as was completely destroyed, that was in 2001 and they moved the dipstick to the front of the engine in late 98 early 99, so Cerb now has a 2001 engine with all the internal upgrades
