Drink Too Much?
Discussion
I dont drink much.
Well, not compared to a lot of my mates.
Anywhose....recently I had to see a health professional who took a history etc etc and mentioned that my drinking was a little OTT.
Yeah yeah yeah, heard it all before.
But he did persuade me to keep a 'booze diary'
I strongly recommend anyone who likes a drink to try this for a couple of weeks.
I'm not giving up drinking, oh no, no f
g way, but I have been shocked by looking at the figures when they are put into black and white.
I hearby put it to the house that you keep a booze diary for the next fourteen days.
Cheers

Teetotal this week for this very reason - I think I'm drinking way too much - I'm certainly spending too much money on booze, it's not doing me any good, and when you come back after a night, once your mates have gone home you do start to wish you hadn't had all that beer.
I don't think giving up completely ever works. A radical action only produces another radical action and you'll end up hitting the bottle twice as hard.
That's why I'm going to try and make it till Friday without touching a drop. I will have saved a fair bit, then back to moderation at the weekend.

I'm in too - if I start from yesterday then it'll be a shocker!
and I have a wedding to go to this weekend. It's an old friend from Uni's wedding so it'll be a reunion for us... can't see that not involving a fair amount of drink too...
Two weeks it is then...
ETA: How should it be recorded? 3xLager, 4xSpirit or should it be recorded in Units - per-day-total-units?

Interesting.
I also have this nagging feeling that I indulge too much.
Soon cured by 2 or 3 generous tumblers of Islay's finest...
Think I'll have a go at this diary idea. Although (a) we've people round tonight and (b) leaving do for one of the girls from the office on Friday, so probably going to be a little skewed from a normal fornight.
Ahem, ok, I'm not even convincing myself so you're forgiven for not believing me either.

I dont drink much at all, very rarely in fact, perhaps once a month.
When I do though, its proper go to town stuff. Between me and a mate we'll easily go through a couple of bottles of spirits.
This is apparently worse than continued levels of fairly high drinking.
I just dont know who to believe...

I read an article about alcoholism, which suggested if you were drinking to change an emotion or state of mind, you were on the slippery slope to forming a drink habit. It really hit home to me, I often came home from work and would head straight for a drink in order to relax, or to reward myself for something.
As a result I stopped drinking after work. I've managed to cut my drinking down from everyday to only Saturday and Sunday evenings. Always a good bottle of wine with food, but once the bottle is empty that's it, no more.
I must say, I feel healthier for it.
This rule is completely ignored for any social event - all bets are off then!

It wouldn't surprise me if all this government-sponsored health-consciousness is yet another example of trying to instill paranoia into everyone to the point where we never do anything we enjoy, but exist merely to keep the state going without being a 'burden' to anyone.
I find I can have a night or two on the tiles per week but as long as I exercise on a fairly regular basis I keep myself in fairly good condition.
I don't think the odd heavy session should do too much damage, neither should a moderated trip to the pub every few nights. I think it's the people who get trashed to extremes every night they can then follow it all down with a greasy Donner kebab each time, and don't do any exercise that are the real problems.

Yep. I drink far too much. I'm actually cutting down at the moment, quite deliberately, for the first time in my life.
Its quite nice, actually. I've got more energy later into the evening when I don't drink...
I'll try the diary thing...
Cut down almost completly in January and found I had more energy all the time. Sundays without hangovers were quite a revelation, from really enjoyable pointless drives to getting little chores done. Made me think about the overall effect it has on my life.
However, just staring reading 'A million little pieces' by James Frey which puts it back in perspective
