Afternoon,

I have experienced this a couple of times now, in both hot and cold weather. On a long journey London to Paris or London to Newcastle, after about 3 hours driving the fan dies. Even on setting 5 in barely produces and air flow.

If I leave the car for a couple of hours the fan works fine again on all settings, it is almost as if the fan motor gets too hot and cuts out, once it has cooled again it starts ok.

Most other issues seem to relate to the resistor going and the fan only working on setting 5, which is not this.

The car is now 10 years old with 100,000 on the clock so this will be its first failure.

Any ideas ?

thanks

Del

Haven't heard of that problem on a W169 before, but resistor was the first thing that came to my head from your thread title. Could well be something else though! In fairness no other problems in 10-years isn't bad going and shows they're quite reliable cars smile

A mechanic friend suggested the bushes on the motor - they wear and get hot and overload the motor.

If I am lucky you can get at it lying in the foot well rather than removing the dash.

No problems obviously doesn't involve the wife crashing into things...
