Mk5 golf gti DSG

As DSG owners know, the gear changes should be smooth and under normal acceleration change at just over 1500 revs. Recently my car has been holding the gears, even when I take my foot off the pedal, sometimes reaching 4000 ish revs before finally changing. And no, its not in ‘S’ mode : )

Another fault, possibly related, possibly not is that the other day I was driving along when the ABS, ESP and tyre pressure lights came on, all at the same time (ESP button was illuminated as well, and wouldn’t turn off). I restarted the car and only the ABS light remained, which soon vanished after driving off. This happened again a couple of days later.

Works recently on the car: Main thermostat changed at a local VW audi specialist (questionable, as they say it took longer as they didn’t know how hard the stat was to reach, which is weird for a VW audi specialist) and I also recently removed the front seats which involved disconnecting the battery to avoid air bag lights.

Ive got it booked in for a service and health check at a different audi vw specialist (I trust these guys) but wanted to know if anyone had any ideas

Hi mate,
Did you sort out this issue? As I am currently having the same problems with my 2007 Golf GT DSG.

Hi mate

Yes I did, it was the wheel bearing.

The wheel bearing has a metallic strip around the edge of it, which has a variety of sensors that read from it (speed sensor etc). This metallic strip corrodes, and the readings the sensors pick up get confused.

Essentially what was happening was the car couldnt work out how fast the wheel was spinning, as the car is DSG, this affected the gear changes.

You can't buy the strip or bearing separately, so you will need a whole new hub. I would highly recommend a genuine hub. The hubs come with 2 internal diameters, 30/32mm and yours could be either. Without taking yours off and measuring, it is luck whether you get the right one.

Hi mate,

I have the same issue. How did you know which wheel bearings were gone ? Or did you change all ?

Hi mate,

I scanned it with VCDS which told me which corner of the car it was.
