had my chrome orange S1 with sport 135 engine for a couple of weeks now and thought I'd report on progress so far.

Firstly, the car is stunning. I've driven a lot of cars from Tuscans, Porsches, Evos, Subarus etc and the Elise is on a par with the Tuscan S in terms of enjoyment.

the steering is so pure, the handling so precise and faithful and the experience of driving the thing is just stunning. can't wait for summer.

problems/queries: the brakes seem quite noisy. The outer pads seem ok but haven't checked the inner ones. is it just the lack of soundproofing which makes them seem noisy? they're steel.

the clutch pedal is a bit loose. it twists a few degrees. had a quick look at weekend (it was snowing so wasn't messing about long) and it looks like a pain to fix. any thoughts?

the roof/window prob i put a thread on about so that's in hand. (silica gel seems to be helping absorb any moisture)

the rear end, think it's just the left, seems to 'chirrup' over sharp bumps like potholes at low speed. it doesn't feel too harsh and the ride's fine so don't think its dampers. would it be greasing of suspension joints? easy to do?

i removed the passneger side horrible shiny/rubbery mat. the glue stuff left behind is minging. and hard to remove. how do I clean it/remove it? i tried white spirit and a cloth but didn't work. there's solid lumps of glue.

thanks very much in advance

Good to hear you're having fun from your S1 135. On the glue front, I'd give some lighter fluid - it always seems to work on removing sticky labels etc but be careful for obvious reasons.

arno, thanks but it's the pedal itself that's wonky - the pedal arm part is perfect!

Liase with your local Lotus dealer (what up here in Scotland I hear you say! ) t-t, who should sort out the footwell corrosion under warranty and supply some "over carpets" FOC.

The rear left chirrup is most likely to be your inboard toe-link.

Can be regreased, but it's a sod to do and doesn't always work.

I'd replace it if it were me - the VX220 part is cheaper and better.
