Right, given the other thread berating messops amongst other places, which high street stores will price match a UK internet website selling UK stock?

Armed with a website printout, how do you go about striking a deal? Is it with any staff member? Manager? Should it be done discreetly?

Messops do... afaik. Although if you get a grumpy salesman you won't get far.

London Camera Exchange will within reason. Although their sticker price was a fiver more than online so i was happy with that.

Always worth just being cheeky and saying "I was going to order this online for £XXX, will you match it so i can buy it now?"

Aforementionned Messops did the job for me - matched a printout from the web although had to call head office for confirmation. Also matched the deal I found with a second battery and larger memory card. Helpful and knowledgable bunch too - I think the standard from store to store differs greatly though.

I dont think John Lewis will match online retailers.

Messups will generally match but have discretion. I got my D70 pricematched and haggled a few quid of the case and memory card as well.

Sometimes, you'll get further with haggling if you take the free stuff route - ie ask what they will throw in if you buy today (obviously they pay much less than the sticker price for your freebies so it costs them less than giving a pure cash discount).

I took a printout of a web page into Jess mupps and they price matched after a phone call.

I think the deal is that it has to be in stock and a UK camera (so pixmania is out for example)...

Thanks all. There are two messops in my locale so I can try both. Think we also have a John Lewis as well. Not looking for expertise from a salesman, that's why I come on here

I know what I want, just need somewhere where I can pick it up rather than trusting the post.

Ditto a couple of times. Think they either check up online themselves or make the call to an approvals office. Never had a problem, did enjoy having the greedy salesman's face drop when he saw how much of a discount he was going to have to give though !
