Do any of you on here hire out your car? Be that through an insured agent or on an individual basis?

If the latter - do you have mileage limits or specific insurance to cover it?

One of my clients hires out his Gallardo and R8 to one company. He is good friends with the owner however.

He gets paid a small fee from the Hire company. They fully insure the vehicles with their own packages. The vehicles are only used on track with instructors. The cars maybe do 50-100 miles max over the 48 hour period.

I'm not sure how it works regards to tyres or if anything goes wrong with the car (mechanically or electronically).

I wouldn't do it with my own cars to be honest.

This is part of what the Auto Vivendi club does - they hire out Supercars some of which are actually owned by members.

I am just curious that if you had personally met the person who would be driving the car at all times for other customers (and they were insured) if you would entertain it - more for weddings etc rather than track time or doing burnouts around Harrods.

I guess it depends on the size of your wallet really.

If it's so large that you have several supercars then I can't see why one of your them wouldn't necessarily take on the guise of a daily hack, and in that context hiring it out wouldn't seem like that big a deal at all, even knowing that they would naturally be thrashed by most clientele. People with mega wallets probably already thrash them disproportionately to those for whom big bills would give pause for thought.

For anyone who cherishes their car, for whom it is their only supercar or bedroom wall car fantasy realised the idea of anyone driving their car would fill them with dread.

Short personal version: No chance.

If I was inclined to, it certainly would.

Hiring out your super car is like renting out the missus.
Whilst it may be financially astute, you have to be disconnected enough not to care how many have been inside it and it's way looser than it used to be.
Not to mention the fact that's probably been driven by people better than you.yikes

Seriously though, not a chance in hell.

Weddings, fine, providing person you met checks out.

I would want to see his company details and have a contract drawn up that means any damage (no matter how small) is covered by said company.

Yes, these are the circumstances I am talking about. I think as mentioned above it depends on personal circumstances or the mindset of the owner.

Personally if I had the controls in place mentioned above I would hire my car out. I am just interested in peoples views on the subject.

I wouldn't hire out any of my cars, not sure there's insurance available to cover even if I did want to make it happen. I've allowed, with pleasure, for trusted friends to take a drive with me alongside. One chap at a driving day desperately wanted to drive an F40 at least once, so I thought WTF, and off we went. He drove mine with deep respect, even driving in his socks as the size of his trainers was a problem, and was over the moon with the experience.

Nice one, and the above is similar to my view.
We now have insurance that allows others to drive our car fully comp so I'd now be happy to let someone take the wheel for a bit if I was sitting alongside smile

There was an ulterior motive to this post in that I was trying to gauge how the population of supercar owners would take hiring out their cars to a trusted individual. I appreciate there are many different variables and 'types' of owner which would warrant a different response.

I have been approached to invest in a hiring/chauffeur market place but I am dubious about potential owners being willing to hand over the keys to clientèle. Although this does appear to be mitigated by offering a trusted 'chauffeur' service where the potential owner would meet with the designated 'chauffeur' pool of drivers.

I'd never hire out one of my cars! More to the point I'd never buy a car that had been used in such a way. People will/do drive like numpties when given the opportunity to do so in a "special car". If it's known as a hired out car it will become marked and a stigma will be attached.
I know a chap who hires an Aventador out, the dealer who maintains the car has told me it's a car they'll have nothing to do with when he looks to sell it even tho it looks in perfect order.

Hi Sone - i appreciate what you saying. Would you consider hiring out as a chauffeur driven vehicle if you knew the driver?

TBH no, I think it might be a different story if it was helping me finance the vehicle.
