Engine was rebuilt 2000 miles (and about 3 months) ago. Had the 1000 mile service at 950 miles. Went for a short drive today but when the engine warmed up it sounded lumpy and a bit weird, on top of the usual sewing machine noise, so I popped round to the factory for a friendly mechanic to take a listen. Result: 3 weeks without the TVR while the engine is rebuilt.

Car is a late 02 Tuscan S. Thought I'd let you all know since Speed 6 reliability seems to be such an issue. I'll keep you updated. Interestingly, the last rebuild was at a place other than the factory (no names) - I wonder if that means it was rebuilt in the old form instead of the (reportedly) newer reliable form.

Annoyingly the Taimar has got an oil leak (nothing serious though I think), so I'm TVR-less.

Sigh.

alex, you seem very calm about all this, have you got to pay out again, or is the last rebuild still under warranty.

If it wasn't under warranty I'd be less calm , but the people at the factory were very nice, and I suppose I'm used to these things breaking down - no point getting annoyed about it. I've got a reliable runabout to keep me going while I wait.

Was a bit miffed at myself though as I've managed to have a small adventure involving a bit of wheel spin and a curb, which is costing me two new wheels + alignment (400-odd quid).

Oops.

i have been informed that rebuilds involved using parts from old engines to save money

Unbelievable! Just had a call from the factory and it turns out the engine problem was not as serious as feared - just soft shims. Even better, it'll be fixed by TOMORROW!

Just pinching myself now...
