Good Evening

A quick question

I am currently in the process of changing jobs, my job offer letter stated "assistant" at the end of the title. But my contract and P46 state "manager" at the end of the new job role?

is this a clerical error? or have the employer changed the role?

I would obviously be delighted if the role has been changed, even on the agreed salary. As the managerial job is my current 'dream/target job' although I thought I may be seen from an employer point of view as slightly premature for it.

I don't really want to send an email off to HR without some advice.

Is there a job description attached to the contract? If not, you could ask for one....

Easiest option would be to ring up and ask.

Not on the contract no, the only job description I have seen was the one when applying for the job.

I will give them a call tomorrow and see what the score is.

Just get stuck in and see for yourself!! You'll know after a few months. Job titles are often incorrect or inaccurate considering what the job actually involves.

Good point the name doesn't really mean a lot, I suppose the main thing is the 'feel good factor.'

Your best negotiating position is now.

Once you sign... all negotiations are off.

Well, if you are manager, you are happy. If you are assistant, you are happy? Soooo, what is the problem here?

When you start you'll find out a little more will you not? Then take it from there.

If you leave you might have more chance of getting a better job coming from "manager".

One thing to consider - if I started a job as an assistant and was then promoted to manager at a later date I would expect a pay rise. If you have suddenly become a manager on the same salary as assistant then you'll miss out on that bump.

Best thing to do is pick up the phone and discuss it with them.

JQ I had already negotiated a pay increase compared to the advertised salary before accepting the job.

So in regards the pay thing isn't a huge deal. The main thing probably is the title of the job and how it may give me strong future prospects.

The job title with "manager" rather than "assistant" can demand a salary of £35k with an OTE of £50k. My salary doesn't come close to this, which I understand due to experience. But if say in 3-4 years I was to leave the company with the "manager" job title, then it could create some real opportunities for me.
