Road-legal track car, insurance?
Discussion
Might seem like the wrong forum, but I figure the audience in here is more likely to have relevant experience
With the bikes, multi-bike insurance is a steal - my track bike adds about 50 quid to the policy (it's not worth a lot), and they're all covered on one policy (for road use that is) with my no-claims applying to the whole policy.. I can only ride one at a time, so not unreasonable.
My experience with cars is that you insure basically separately, NCB only valid on one policy etc.
Basically I'm in the (enviable) position of having a clean slate for my 4 wheeled solution. In the past I've generally had a compromise trackable, and just practical enough car. I'd prefer to get something focussed for track and some fun road use (e.g. a caterham or similar), and a cheapish barge/estate type vehicle that can tow bikes to the track and be a load lugger. Last time I checked insuring a second car with effectively no NCB was eye watering, even for something cheap..

As above a limited mileage policy is definitely the way forward for the second car, especially if it can be called "classic" (ie. 15 years old or more in most companies eyes falls into this category) and with a "specialist insurer".
On top of that it is worth looking around as my current insurer insures me for my daily driver (not quite competitively) but then mirrors my no claims onto my track day car, making the insurance bill as a whole much cheaper.
On this basis give Aplan a try.
