Noisy fan belt - Any solutions?

The fan belt on my Chimeara is rather noisy when running - appears worse when it gets warm. It doesnt slip at all & has just been serviced. I know this is often a common problem and am only aware of a squirt of WD40 as a possible cure - interested to hear if anyones got any other quick fixes?

I bought a new one from peninsula, not expensive. Have you got a stone in it?

possibly the bearings in the tensioner.
new belt/service + more strain on tensioner.

use a spray grease NOT WD40...too thin.

Oil or grease on a fan belt may not be a smart move. In the short term it'll make it more likely to slip. Longer term it's going to rot the rubber.

Soap is supposed to make these things quieter, alternatively you could try some belt dressing spray?

When mine's been noisy it's been because:

1) Stone caught in it (a la Grouch above)
2) Small split
3) Several splits due to crank pulley being mis aligned & dinked

I don't believe any lubrication to the belt itself should be necessary.

The last thing you ought to use is a lubricant - you need a propper "belt dressing" which does the opposite.
I use a spray called Gripper. Don't know who supplies it (nicked mine from work).
