Imagine going to buy a car that you like, and it lists at £31,000.
You would be feeling pretty pleased with yourself if you managed to negotiate a deal at £17,000 for it wouldnt you?
But imagine if after ordering, a few days later you found an even better one for £14,000. Then on making enquiries you found out that the 1st car you ordered was in fact the very most basic specification available and massively overpriced even at the discounted figure. But the cheaper car you have now found is in fact the very top specification available and offered at a very fair price and having made further enquiries you find that no-one locally can match the specification at the price.
So imagine cancelling the order for the 1st car, only to be offered it at £9,000 as an incentive to continue with the order.
So you've gone from £31,000 down to £9,000 and all it ever was in the 1st place was a £9,000 car, perhaps not even that.
Would you want to continue with the order on the 1st car, or buy the 2nd car?

Go to the first bloke and say call it £4k and you've got a deal
Haggle to about £7k
Get the other bloke to match it
BTW I've just saved you £2k where's my bloody cut
I bloody hate dealing with these people, you want to just pay a bit more and not lower yourself to that level but £20k for 5 minutes work is not to be sniffed at

Did you get the "Order today, and I'll knock XX pounds off the price" spiel?? Thieving gits, all of them.
The other ones to watch are the driveway paving thieves - had one a few years ago, fairly large driveway, they wanted GBP16500 to lay, but if we ordered there and then, they'd do it for GBP9000. Told them we'd think about it, and that if they can do it for 9K on that day, they could bl**dy well do it for 9K later on.
They must make an absolute killing on some sales to justify starting with such a high price, when most people I now could negotiate them to about a fifth very easily.

I am in fact a double glazing/conservatory salesman, I signed a deal this evening, and my post was my customers story. I hear this sort of thing time and time again from customers. WTF is wrong with this industry. So much of it stinks.

Best way to save on double glazing is to DIY - If you don't mind the hassle of ordering the windows yourself and can spare the time - It's very easy to do and you KNOW that the windows have been fitted / sealed etc correctly.
Personally, I wouldn't let the vast majority of DG companies into the house, knowing just how short a time the fitters are allowed on any site and hearing many a horror story from people in the trade.
Make sure you get recommendations from other customers if you don't want to DIY.

If this thread is too expensive, I can do you a favour and give my boss a ring, and he'll say that as a special favour to a special customer we can do a 'this weekend only''excess capital, profit share scheme' special price if you buy today and put a board outside your house etc....
