Classical musicians doing pop tunes

How do professional musicians who went into the job intending to play classical music feel about playing the backing on rock and pop tracks? Or orchestra members when the orchestra does an album of rock covers?

Is it just another job? An irritation? Or even an interesting change?

I employ dozens of classically trained musicians every year. The work most of them get in orchestras usually doesn't pay the bills, so session work is essential. It's just a job, they are not that interested in what it is for. Last time I was in London, most stepped out from my session into one for Robbie Williams. Another day another dollar.

ETA I heard later that day from several of them, that they were well pissed off as there were no parts ready for them in the Williams session and they sat around for ages whilst the arranger worked stuff out. Now THAT is taking the piss.... and typical of pop music. (I've been on the others side too).

For stuff like that usually the "Dollar" is pretty good. I've never heard anyone moan about a recording session (in the main London studios). Even on a bog standard rate you can make 180quid for up to 3 hrs. Often more depending on its use.
