AM Virage (after the DB9 and before the DB9 Mk II).

Error: letting battery go flat - no trickle charger left on.

Previously I have always succeeded in jump starting but this time:
Dash indicators show mileage and door lights are on but
when I come to press the starter button/fob the dash lights up per normal start routine but then the starter motor (I think) goes into a rapid clicking, no turnover at all.
The clicking does not stop even when you take the key out.
After about 15 seconds, the clinking stops.

Retrying goes through the same routine.

Any ideas, what can i do to get started again...?

If the clicking is loud and mechanical then it is likely the starter solenoid. Taking that to be the case, it sounds like there is insufficient power to kick it in, or its faulty. Do the dash lights dim when you try to start? If so, not enough power, if they dont, other issues.

Aston's are very sensitive to duff batteries, it could well be your battery has been fubared. This could be due to the deep cycle of the flat battery or unrelated. Needless to say, batteries dont respond well to deep cycling.
What confuses me is that a jump start from another power supply should not be hindered by a duff battery. It may be you have developed the temporary gremlins associated with a flat battery that requires a full system reset before you try. The residual energy in the current battery is holding the systems in place and the jump start wont work.
As a suggestion;
Disconnect the present battery and leave off for a while. Put that battery on charge during this time.
Reconnect the battery and jump start as normal. If it fires up, theres your monkey. Then all you have to do is find out if your battery is fubar.

Open the bonnet, connect a suitable battery charger (not trickle!) to the positive terminal under the bonnet and the negative to piece of metal to earth (alternator bracket is a good one) and leave the car to charge.......then disconnect and start the car. Should work. Don't start when the charger is connected.....

Good luck and regards, Brin
