Just a quickie from the ill-informed. On the Tuscan Mk2 display, the battery reading on mine varies from 12.5 to 14 amps. Sorry to be so dense but is this an indication of the charge left in the battery and if so at what level should I worry about it being low and in need of recharge ?
Lots of threads I know but any opinions (definitive) regarding the solar top-up appliances ? Cheers indeed !!

Hi, hope your enjoying the car.

I've got a Mk I so there could possibly be a difference (but unlikely) . The figure you are talking about will be the voltage not current. This should be showing between 12-14 V to signify that the battery and charging circuits are fine. The value will lower if you have more load, such as the lights, heater, sterio turned on etc. The value shown is the real-time voltage, it is not showing any sort of capacity. Obviously if the value starts to drop and this continues, then this points to an alternator problem. It doesn't sound like you have a problem, your reading is quite normal.

Cheers
Gary

What he said (furrydice). Hence you'll find it drops a few volts when turning the engine over.

Thanks guys !! Very helpful........now then, after 1 week when I start it I get on occassions a warning just after starting (a 1 I think) which mentions oil pressure but disappears after a few secs of the engine turning over !! Is this normal ? I'm presuming the pressure needs a few minutes to generate........Oh Gosh, maybe to much worrying information from the car !!! ....waits impatiently for the instruction manual ......!!!

The manual wouldn't tell you about the oil pressure warning when you start the engine.
Nothing to worry about though - as you've already said, there is no oil pressure until the engine starts turning. As long as the warning disappears as soon as the engine fires up, you've got nothing to worry about.
