Do you reckon that triumph could start making cars again?

After hearing the jump in profits, do you think triumph could consider making cars again? Even if it's just a GT86 based car, ie, low cost, low power, maximum fun?

Triumph, as in Triumph Motorcycles? They've had nothing to do with Triumph cars for decades. The motorcycle business was sold to Ariel in 1936.

Triumph, as a car brand, is currently owned by BMW. I doubt resuscitating it is high on their list of priorities.

Well, seeing as BMW revived the mini (mainly because it's a very well known car), maybe they should revive triumph. Making just cars that are fun, cars similar to the GT86 or that Nissan concept, cars that aren't fast and serious, eg, BMW 3 series.

BMW didn't "revive" Mini.

The new Mini was already under development when BMW bought Mini, while the original Mini remained in production until the new Mini was ready for launch.

Also, it filled a gap in BMW's range. A GT86-alike "Triumph" would compete with the lower end of the 2/4-series and possibly Z4, as well as potentially the top end of the Mini range.

B'sides, Triumph as a car brand is pretty damn irrelevant now.

I reckon there's as much chance as BMW reviving Riley, which was on the cards under a previous CEO.

Triumph were never a very successful car manufacturer. Standard took over the remains of the company after WW2, became Standard-Triumph and then dropped the Standard name.

Ironically the original Triumph company was started in 1885 by two Germans, although BMW show no interest in reviving the name.

Just imagine if they revived Triumph instead of having the 2/4 series. We would be waiting for the new sprint rather than the M2

Am I right in thinking the Riley would have been based on the Rover 75 platform ?

Not entirely sure you got the subtlety in this. Maybe you're too young? And Volkswagen could bring back the Blenheim, Audi could have a go with the Lancaster, and Mercedes could resurrect the Churchill.
