Diary of a whimpy kid alternatives

My 8 year old son got the first book for Christmas and its kicked off the reading bug, he has now read all 10 books, can anyone recommend something similarly engaging to try next

Given that he has chewed through all 10 books in a few weeks, what about Harry Potter?

My boy is nine. When he was eight, he loved reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid as well. He also went through all of the Horrid Henry books, Tom Gates, Dinosaur Cove and David Walliams as suggested above. Not really high brow, but he also enjoyed the Diary of a Minecraft series. Not sure if Minecraft is sooo last year now or whether it's good if you're 8 but not if you're 9, either way he's not interested in it any more.

He is now obsessed with Harry Potter and is currently on his 5th time of reading the series. As such very little else gets a look in. He thought Hunger Games was ok but randomly he really liked Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. Mind, he hasn't touched any of the other MM books I've bought him though!
