Why are S8s so expensive, compared to W12/4.2?
Discussion
I've been looking for a 4.2 A8 for a while and not found one. As I have upped my budget a bit it brought some S8s into the mix. However, they seem a lot more expensive than the 4.2. £13-£14K is getting a pre-face lift 70K+ miles poverty spec motor. A couple have ceramic brakes but no other options as far as I can see.
Is it just because of the motor and the rarity?
Think I will stick to hunting for a 4.2 as I can get hopefully get newer, lower mileage and better spec

Rarity
The engine
It came out fairly late in the D3 lifespan so invariably is newer than some 4.2 options
There are quite a few in poverty spec, which is a shame.
Good ones don't hang around for ever, although one up in Scotland for sale on the owners club forum has been for sale for a while when it should've sold very quickly. Spec is excellent, but it's a facelift model with low miles so nearer £20k

The S8 is a different car to an A8. More driver focused even compared to the sport, but never harsh.
When the S8 was introduced I thought "what's the point why not just get a W12 SWB". Then I drove one and understood. Instantly.
Ceramic brakes cost a fortune to replace, while the discs don't wear like cast iron they can craze. Hot brakes hitting standing water for instance can cause it. They also feel a bit wooden and need to be warm, they restrict the wheel options (small winters for instance won't fit) For normal road use I'd avoid.
B&O however

Because Ronin.
I need a nitrous kit, and some bigger injectors. I've got the specs over hereRobert de Niros face was a picture, when he was supposed to be driving a 405 around Paris. In reality he was a passenger, with a dummy steering wheel. The stunt driver was stationed in the boot or passenger seat (dependant on scene) with the real controls.
