I've got a new M3 on order due to be collected on 1st March, however i didnt pick the service pack. My reasoning being that i do relatively low miles (4k per year typically) and with condition based servicing I worry that i wont see the value out of it (assuming its £1k).

What are peoples thoughts? I was planning on a call to the dealer to see what type of discount there is on the pack, however if its £1k i think i'll be better off paying as i go.

Dealers will likely charge slightly different amounts for the various services, mainly due to labour costs, but I'd think you're likely to cover the cost of the service pack after the running in service and a couple of regular services. So, unless you're planning to get rid of the car within the first two years then I'd get the service pack - that's what I did as I'm planning to keep the car for four years.

Is the service pack transferable? If so, then you might find second owners less interested in the car and dealers offering lower trade-in values for it.

It is £1,100 from 1/1/16 and it is transferable.

My concern is that the servicing has big intervals and with my low mileage.

For instance i can't just drop it in once a year under than plan to drop the oil and filters as I would typically with a car (I plan to track it) so after the running in service I might only get 1 oil change as I suspect I have to go based on the service info provided by the car?

Regardless of mileage the car will ask for a service at least once every 2 years, plus the running in service, so if you are keeping for a while it's probably worth it.

If you are planning to keep for four or five years, I would say it makes sense to take out the pack.

If you plan to only keep for a couple of years and then sell with only 10K on the clock, a second owner might see a lot of value having three more years free servicing and plenty of miles until they hit the mileage limit - so my man maths says it may still be a good idea to take out the pack.

This.

It's condition/time based, so even if you did zero miles, the car would flag up the service requirements, so service pack is very much worthwhile...IMHO.

Had 2 service inclusive deals on my last 2 BMW and its worked out well, M4 is due march and again invested in the service pack, i think £1k well spent, also tyre insurance has paid its way if you need it.
