They're very stealable.
In fact the most stolen item in 2015.

I'm just in the process of swapping over to them. Very nice chaps to talk to on the phone, and should save me around £250 per annum. http://pedalcover.co.uk

Invest in some kryptonite locks, and some ground anchors if you think you're staying at the property, 150 pounds on some decent locks and cables will be enough to deter a thief.
I chose to do this rather than pay through the nose for insurance because they only cover theft from home, where the bikes are always locked, not away from the home. I can use the locks for years and I've saved more than their cost on a single year by not paying ridiculous premiums.

Sorry but it really wont. I lost a £300 bike which had a £70 sold secure gold D lock (Abus) and a SS gold chain (Kryptonite) on it. Wouldn't be worth their effort I thought. I feel much more comfortable with the Pedalcover insurance, which covers me so long as the bikes are locked up if out of the home, and if they're kept inside a locked structure at home, they don't need to be individually locked up.
From memory, the premium they've quoted is around £438 for buildings and contents cover including unlimited cover at home, and up to £15k away from the home, with no need to itemise up front.
Also key is that they pay out in cash on a new for old basis. It's all well and good replacing your off the peg bike with another one out of your insurer's catalogue if you've got an off the peg bike, but it would be a nightmare trying to get a like for like replacement on a steel hardtail I've build up myself from parts which would cost well over £1,500 to replace if I had to try.

Same advice here. http://pedalcover.co.uk
With Pedalcover I got full cover for my bikes including when I take them on holiday with me and the cover was still cheaper than my old house contents and buildings cover.

Mine are insured with John Lewis house insurance - under written by legal and general I think.
8 grands worth for about £200 ontop of about £200 house insurance.
I've just renewed with JL, their Premier? cover includes £1k per bike up to £5k total, any bike over £500 has to be listed. Figured that my Cannondale Scalpel cost me over £3k, it was 13+ years ago & it's probably replaceable for £1k now.8 grands worth for about £200 ontop of about £200 house insurance.
Buildings & contents with the bikes covered was the same price as my old renewal (+ £40 JL voucher as a bonus) with £500 of bike cover. Can't recommend JL highly enough to be honest.
Also have JL insurance they have the best customer service recommendation from Which in the event of a claim. I think my Roubaix was either included or it was down as being £1400, with the S-Works on there @ £6k I think I pay about £100 on top so £530 all in, as others have said that includes overseas and in the airlines care.
