I need one more direct debit to meet their criteria. I have a SO setup for £500 and a phone bill set up on the account. What could i do for another direct debit ? Cheap as possible as long as it meets their criteria

I had the same issue. They suggested I take out their credit card and pay it off each month via a direct debit from the current account. So that is what I do. So I stick the petrol on there and get cash back.
Edit - I should say that there is a fee for the CC, and it's just gone up to £3 per month.

£5 I think. So in a year, 10% of your 3% has gone.

Set up a tesco internet saver account. You can then pay into it monthly (£1 if you want) by direct debit. One of the only savings accounts that allows this as a DD rather than a standing order.

With the cash back on bills, im getting close to £650 a year on this account. £60 is totally worth it.

There are some bank savings accounts that allow you to pull money in by DD from your current account.

Interesting thanks for that. For a DD to qualify does the money need to come out monthly ? I have a magazine subscription and it comes out yearly so wondered if this would qualify ?

Don't forget you can have three 1-2-3 accounts between two of you. We're getting back £100+ / month after tax!! Running out direct debits is an issue, Lloyds are doing 5% on £2k and than £250/month into regular saver - Apparrently no DD needed??

The direct debits have to be "active".

According to Santander customer service this means they can only be used once a year.
