I've just put a set of Continental TS810's (OEM 18" rims) on my e61 touring and was wondering if anyone knew what the recommended tyre pressures are?

They'll be on the sticker on the driver's door jamb.

3/4 PSI above normal would be right.

Why would you do that? If it needed higher pressures it would be on the sticker in the door jam

I was told at a Sneterton winter meat some years ago to increase winter tyre pressures (winter tyres mind you) and it did work well, check your pressures on your car when it's zero and see how far down the PSI is.

Thanks, I never thought of looking there, recommended pressures are the same as regular summer tyres, 2.4 front, 2.6 rear.

Different issue - tyres clearly need to be checked regularly & that means pumping them up in the winter to compensate for lower temperatures - but the point is that Winter tyres should basically be run at the same pressures as Summer tyre AFAIK

Normally the recommendation is 0.2psi higher in my experience, it's even more than that for my Golf R.

tyre pressures should be set when the tyres are cold anyway

Manual lists identical pressures for me and that's with different sized wheels and tyres.

You don't have a gauge that is accurate to 0.2 psi.

Why do Internet folks think they know better than the vehicle and tyre designers? Sticker pressure set at ambient temperature will be fine, anything else is myth.

0.2 bar - my bad! Most cars I've owned show winter tyres separately on the plate / sticker...

That might also explain why nearly all of my previous cars (except the R) managed marginally better mpg in the winter than the summer when running winter tyres.

I have in the last 5 years on winter tyres run them at higher pressures, no problems at all. It's worth experimenting to see for your selves.

Plus/minus perhaps 10%, maybe even 15 or as much as 20 and most drivers will be hard pressed to feel any difference? And tyre wear will be broadly similar?
