My father has a collection of classical records, mostly 33s but there are few 78s too. He is moving house and has no use for them. It seems a shame to take them to the tip. If anyone wold like them or can suggest someone who would take them, please let me know.
Thanks,
Geoff
We have a couple of hundred sat in my mum's loft after my dad died. We reached out to a few collectors but they weren't interested. Seems a shame just to throw them away as well. Thanks,
Geoff
Do people recycle them?
Ebay, no reserve. Gumtree free to collect. Freecycle.
I used to sell records semi professionally, and certainly in my experience I wouldn't touch classical with a bargepole. There is a resurgence of vinyl but it's fairly niche, indie stuff, special editions, reissues and the like. There's still high prices on some older stuff but again very very niche and really only for the enthusiast.
I fear most people who once bought classical records moved to CD long ago, maybe even mp3 and won't be going back for various fairly obvious reasons. And it doesn't have a following with younger people in the same way other genres do, punk, rock, techno etc so there's no new market for it.
Look in any charity shop and you'll find boxes of classical and crooners which never move.
