Switches.............

I am still looking for switches.
I have seen some push button switches but they are the 'push on - push off' type which means the heater and wiper will be only one speed. Is there a way to 'convert' these into a 'push-on-on-push-off' action, so that I could get low/hi speed on the wiper and heater motors?
Failing that anyone know of a web site? I have tried the usual ones, Premier, SVC, CBS, Europa etc
I have managed to source a starter button in the gear knob which looks the biz, not much cop for those with the exposed right hand gear change though, you need the gear lever gaitor to cover the wires.
Any info would be appreciated.

It's not much help but the TVR Cerbera uses a sequential button on the steering wheel for controlling the wipers. Push once for intermittent, twice for normal speed, again for fast and once more to turn them off. There are plenty out there that have been wrecked so it may be an option to grab the wheel and all the electronic components and transfer them all in their entirety to the Ultima.

I suspect the button is just a 'push to make' all the clever stuff is in some sort of relay pack under the dash. My Range Rover has something similar for the rear screen wiper.

Hi Graham, not exactly push button but have you thought of guitar pickup switch, they usually have a 3 positions on them. i think maplins do some, obviously music shops would also sell them. i suspect you may have trouble finding one of these that suits your dash though. dave

Do a search for a "flip-flop" circuit. It's a circuit design that turns a momentary switch into a on/off.

I bet if you dig hard enough, you can find a multiple state switch flip flop design that will have multiple on setting and an off. It will probably need to run through a small relay board as the op-amps and whatnot are probably in the 3.3 to 6 vdc range.

It’s easier to use microcontroller for 3-state flip-flop because you have to care about contact bouncing in a button.
$8 in hardware and 20 minutes to program.
