Recently bought one of those skx007k2 divers watch from a much discussed Singapore watch seller,It turned up not working
so after a zillion emails it was sent back to whence It came with a little help from a well known money exchange service, and still ongoing.Anyway Whilst it was in my possession I gave the offending Item a good once over and must admit it did seem of poor quality,I cant put my finger on it but it just wasn't right,The polished sides where it met the brushed finish was undefined, also some fine pitting to the underside just outside of the rear screw case,I cant say it was terrible because I have no experience of this particular model only looking at different forums suggesting that quality between Japanese marked models are far superior and others saying not so, Anyway I decided that I still wanted one and took a punt this time on the skx007kd ,So after a week or so It has turned up, working I may add, which is always a good sign.
Now unlike the K2 this one came with the warranty card included and a different instruction manual and 2 labels ,one saying ref skx007k2 and another saying skx00kd and the little blue sticker on the rear marked made in china. Now this watch is another thing altogether Totally superior in every way, sharp defined polishing, perfect underside,Lovely action on the rotating bezel,Screw down crown has a superior thread and the lume is way more neat and brighter than the Singapore watch,It looks like it came from the high street and it works brilliantly . All in all very impressed and think this will be a keeper, an excellent value Watch, so if you are in the market for one of these I think there is a large disparity in grey market quality control , take care with your purchasing....

Hi,
I've got a "K" model SKX007, and when I compared it to a Japanese model of the same, there was no discernable difference apart from the script on the face. Sounds like you might have been sent a factory second perhaps?.

Up until it took a dive off the worktop and hit the tiled floor it was spot on accuracy wise, Joe (Variomatic) has seen inside itas he did the repair and I'm led to believe that the movments are the same (might be wrong though).

There's this thread on watchuseek which explains someway, but it is now a few years old.

Whilst researching these models I cam across someone stating that even the models with made in Japan are not made there but are signed off by Japanese supervisors. How true that is I'm not sure but sounds feasible.

Obviously Seiko have more than 1 factory, but I can't see them making 1 standard for franchised dealers and another for other sources. It would just not be worthwhile.

That said their usually very good QA is far from infallible, as evidenced by some of the new "Turtles"

I had a SKX007 leak and subsequently pop the crown for apparently no reason less than two years old from a certain Singapore seller.

It was a K model and looked well made and also kept great time.

I was very disappointed and won't likely buy another.

Definitely shouldn't from the certain Singapore seller, if it was from the same certain Singapore company as the one as I bought recently, who are bragging about there customer service...
