Hi all,

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and getting rid of the original ECU, dizzy, wiring loom etc and going for an after market ECU and coil packs.

There are many options out there, each with their own pros and cons, but I like the Emerald for its versatility.

However, I am a DIY numpty and know nothing of Lambda sensors or air flow meters etc, so I'm looking for a drive in, drive out solution.

Is there someone who is considered the 'expert' when it comes to Emerald ECU fitting and tweaking? Where should I be taking the car to get it all done?

I welcome your opinions on who to take it to, but also your views of the Emerald ECU (or other options) and any pitfalls to watch for.

Many thanks.

[I had an emerald, to be honest I don't think it's the ecu of choice, don't get it mapped by emerald as mine never ran right

Jools Is the person to go to for a drive in drive out and does a jolly good job, but look at ecu spec, all depends what you want to pay for a ecu

Also a few have gone for canems, look at Lloyd specialist developments, they offer drive in and out ,also tvr power offer their version based on a MBE ecu

Pays yer money and takes your choice

^^^^^^^ This says it all really.

I've got an Emerald and personally cant fault it. Really user friendly and extremely easy to navigate your way around it.

If you decide on Emerald give Jools a ring as its his chosen ecu.

Thanks for the swift replies chaps.

Who is this Jools you speak of? Can you give me a point in the right direction?

Keep the opinions coming, please.

Cheers.

We have an Emerald in the Orange Chim and it has been faultless - and don't know what you did to it Hoofa as given Emerald make the ECU and have the guy who actually does the programming it on-site you can't possibly get any better than having them map it themselves - unlike most mappers Emerald do professional mapping for many of the major manufacturers own development engines.

Another option is the Omex 710 - it's a bit more expensive at £1000 (Emerald is about 650)..

but does have full sequential injection for each cylinder where as the Emerald fires cylinders in pairs.

Another thumbs up for Jools at Kits & Classics. I had my Chim trailored up to him in Chesterfield February last year. He fitted the
Emerald K6 and programmed two maps, also sorting out a few other little niggles al at a very reasonable price. Top bloke.

An Emerald K3 user here (one of the initial group buy) and it's been faultless any issues I have had have been entirely due to my determination to DIY it all the way, including mapping, and have been entirely self-inflicted.

I agree that Joolz is a top bloke - he's the nearest to me, so if/when I go aftermarket, I shall pop over to Chesterfield and get it done, unless am persuaded a different system would be better for me.
If I lived in the Coventry/Birmingham area, I could be persuaded to go to TVR Power.
If I lived in the South West then I could be persuaded to go to Lloyds.

I am not saying that these systems require constant attention, far from it, but it is handy having your mapper close at hand if you have any issues......a lot of time and money can be eaten up hiking half way across the country for service, especially if you have to leave the car and collect it later.

I have heard good comments about MBE, Emerald and Canems, and rarely any negative comments. So do your research, choose the one that you and your TVR guru think is best for what you want, and pay your money. Just keep distance in mind if the choice is a close one otherwise.

I went MBE from Power...... no probs at all from me, but not in the same price bracket as those quoted above BUT... all the back and rolling road set-up, diff injectors etc all included in the price... basically drive in and drive out fully set-up
