I've now got a beard but when I was sans beard I had a good set of "sidies": they varied in length and bushiness but generally they were always around ear lobe length.

I did go the full Gaz from Supergrass; back in the day, Guy Martin has a great set.

No burns here. I find them annoying when I'm wearing my glasses.

The only people who should have sideburns are big old farmers or Victorian army sergeants. Or Guy Martin.

Can't grow sideburns for toffee!

Can grow a great moustache or a goatee (should I want to) but sideburns I struggle with.

I agree, no burns look like your wearing a helmet.

To the middle of the ear has always seemed a reasonable compromise between appearing unable to grow facial hair, and beginning to resemble some hill-billy inbred from Arkansas.

As we are on the topic;
(Donning flame proof suit...)
It is that little tuft of hair under the lip, that sometimes extends just over the chin, or is simply pasted onto the chin, that utterly mystifies me.
How does anyone convince themselves that it is attractive or cool?

I don't judge people by these types of things, but that one is just very confusing.

I've a full beard and for some reason beyond me that bloody tuft grows far lighter in tone than the rest.

Yes and as in picture 2 above (no burns).
I have no desire to directly offend anyone, but this has made a fairly recent appearance (6-8 years), and it has never ceased to amaze me when I see it.
