Been mulling over the decision for the last couple of weeks... was all set to do it as soon as I got the car back from the respray, MOT, etc. but it looked so damned sexy and I was having so much fun, I just couldn't bring myself to do it!

No amount of figure-fudging in Excel can alter the fact, though... a serious tax-code faux pas combined with other, more important long-term commitments mean that the Tuscan's got to go.

It's been an eventful relationship with the car - from the frustrations of having to get the engine sorted once & for all to cruising through France, etc. with the roof down & stereo up. No matter how frustrating it was at times, it'll only be fond memories I take away of what's one of the most characterful, purposeful, and enjoyable cars I've ever owned, or dreamed of owning (and I do remember dreaming of it).

So, to anyone that's thinking of getting one, just do it... you only live once, and there can't be many years left before we're all GPS-tracked and limited to 50mph on roads so choked you can only get up to 25.

Me, I'll be back in something putting out 400BHP before too long, I'm sure. For now, the Rover's 300BHP will have to suffice.

Small print: Ad will probably be up this weekend at £25,995 ONO once I've got some new pictures taken, if anyone's interested in jumping the gun - would really like to see it go to a good home given all the work done on it. Car comes warrantied till April 2007, just MOTd & tappets done, etc. with over £12ks worth of upgrades & improvements over the last year... www.pistonheads.com/members/showcar.asp?carId=13018

Sorry to hear that James. I was looking forward to seeing it after all your "S" modifications had been done.

I am feeling rather lonely up here as most people I know who owned a Tuscan no longer do so.

Out of interest what is the next project? 400 BHP? Normally aspirated or Turbo charged?

This is a sad day James.

You know what will happen; you'll sell her then spend the whole of the summer being suicidal about not being in posession of a tuscan, then just go out and buy another after a few months - I should hang on to her especially as you've spent so much cash on mods, etc....

Anyway, what ever happens, keep posting on here and run another 'has yours gone bang yet' thread in the near future!!!!

Sorry to hear that James.

With a bit more luck than you've had someone going to get a great car.

And you really can put "no expense spared" and know it's true.

Guess you be getting a Cerb again then!

Hope you've TVRless period lasts as long as your last one.

Another one bites the dust...

It's such a shame to let a nice car go but if you can't afford it then you can't afford it...

No idea what I'm going to play with next. Nothing for a while, I think!

To be fair, although it's really upsetting to have to let it go now, I'd probably have been wanting to change in 6 months anyway - I only really enjoy having cars while I'm upgrading them... once they're finished, I tend to get a bit bored and want something new.

Oh, I won't be departing PH, that's for sure! I'll hopefully not be too upset this summer - freeing up some capital will let me do loads of (dull work) stuff I've got planned that should help fund a nice shiny motor in the future.

Back, yes.

Soon, not so likely - imagine the sunny months may be behind us before I'm hooning around in something flash again (but if I get a payrise of truly epic proportions you never know!)

Fesser, nah - gone off that idea. Like buying British, which only really leaves Marcos, TVR, Noble, Jaguar (assuming they release something worthy), and Aston in the cars I'm interested in.

It's all just a prioritisation game, though... I didn't get to be able to afford to run Tivs by letting things get out of hand financially. If I was willing to sacrifice a couple of lifelong ambitions to run it (like rallying across Africa), or play the debt juggling game, I could. But that's not how I fund my hobbies.

Tell me about it! The Rover isn't half putting stuff into perspective... It needs some beefing up if I'm going to run it as a daily, reliable car. So, I really ought to get it serviced, and a new clutch, and a new gearbox fitted. Total cost for all that is <£500. Throw in new, uprated suspension all round, and new brakes, and a couple of other bits and pieces & you're talking the entire car being sorted for another 30,000+ miles for what's still substantially less than £1k! A whole different proposition...
