So I'd class myself as fairly tech/web savvy but it seems not enough as I've fallen foul to an eBay scammer!

My current iphone is knackered and as I don't want a contract, I settled on buying a 6 off eBay so spent time searching for the right spec and price. Landed on an advert that was listed from a supplier who had several grade A boxed phones. I exchanged messages and agreed to purchase having seen he had good feedback etc.

I paid for the phone which was the standard going rate so not overly cheap as that would have made me suspicious. I have received an email off eBay stating the account was breached so the sale was a scam, they've suggested I try to recoup my money which is showing as gone from PayPal by opening a dispute, question is where will I stand with this?

Yep paid via PayPal, fingers crossed it doesn't turn into a headache.

Yep just initiate a claim back through eBay and you'll get a refund assuming you paid through PayPal.

If you did a bank transfer, WU, MoneyGram or similar then I'm afraid you're most likely hosed.

Not web savvy enough if you managed to post the same question twice!

Good, you paid with PayPal!

You'll be ok.

I was expecting another thread from a complete moron somebody who used bank transfer to pay a stranger.

I know it's not the best. But I have an iPhone 6, 64GB that will be up for sale at the end of the week, PM me if you're interested.

Back to topic:
If it was paid via Paypal, I see no reason why they wouldn't refund it under their terms and conditions.

Quite a few of these scam's around at the moment. My friend Jay Lee got scammed selling an iphone. The buyer said the box was empty and ebay ruled in the buyers favour. So he lost his £170 and the phone. Even more of a blow as he is house bound and frail and has now been cut off from the outside world. Though this isnt the first time he has got scammed so perhaps certain people are prone to it.
