SOR recommendation for 997 C2S
Discussion
Can anyone recommend a dealer for SOR on my 997? I'm looking to sell my 07 997 C2s with 35k miles and can't be doing with private sale so would like to hear if you've done the same thing with positive results. Obviously, some unscrupulous dealers out there so want to steer clear of them.
I'm based on Hants/Dorset borders.

Why not ring Tom at 911 Virgin and just sell it to them straight sale? If the cars a good one it will be done and dusted and money in the bank that day.
Because I'm not in a hurry so wish to get the maximum return possible. SOR will likely give me a better result, not guaranteed I know. Can never understand this. Why get shafted ££ wise by a dealer when by exercising due diligence and checking potential purchasers BEFORE they visit, you will sell with very little risk if the car is reasonable value. Chances are a 'quality' dealer will buy it anyway.
SOR is not without risk....dealer going belly up and screwing you down on price...

Not in a rush.
One of these statements has to go.
Just stick it on pistonheads or autotrader and state Non negotiable price if you won't sell it to 911virgin or RSJ
Thanks for all the replies but was looking for recommendations rather than reasons why I should or should not use SOR as a method of sale. I was hoping maybe someone would say "I used such and such dealer down your way who was honest, did a good job and returned me a figure that was better than an outright sale so would recommend them".
I'll keep waiting

Hi,
As stated above 911 Virgin and RSJ are both very easy and good to deal with.
You would need to weigh up the cost's involved with SOR and see if its worth the extra effort and cash.... You would probably need something along the following doing:

- All wheels refurbed if not already ok.
- Full Showroom Valet.
- Paint work all sorted.
- Insurance/on going valeting.
- Any mechanical/electrical issues that arise during the time to sell the car would need dealing with.

I'd be very cautious about SOR on an older car.
I did this on my 997 with a dealer not mentioned and although they were fair with me, it's very easy to end up with less than you would have received on a part ex price.
They will obviously tell you the price they will market the car for and then their commission, then add vat to their commission and then do the 111 point check, which will probably reveal quite a few items that could 'possibly' fail in the next 12 months. Things that may in reality last longer and may not even be a problem for the next buyer. Plus any tyres that don't have a 'good' 4mm on them will need to be replaced.
By the time you factor in those extra costs and the realistic prospect that the dealer will be asked to drop his price by a potential buyer, plus waiting anywhere up to 6 weeks or more this time of year for the sale/funds.
Considering cash flow is a big issue to many of the specialists, why not try to negotiate a fair price somewhere between a part ex and a fair SOR figure and then give the dealer say up to 6 weeks to sell the car or he has to pay you at that point or sooner if he sells it. He will then normally take a view on some of the 50/50 items arising from the 111 point check to try to make the numbers work for both parties.
Personally I'd only go down the SOR route on a car less than 5 years old or I'd have to have them do the 111 point check FOC prior to agreeing or deciding if the figures worked in my favour.
