Does the Ford MT75 gearbox fit into an S type tunnel?
Discussion
Does anyone know if an MT75 box will fit into the transmissin tunnel of an S1 without having to modify the chassis or is it too wide / deep?
It appears to be shorter and have a more easily adjusted gear linkage which might allow the gear lever to come up in the right place ( vertically ) and it as apparantly stronger tha pn the type 9 in there now ( but others say it isn't ).
I don't mind changing / making new gearbox mountings but do not want to make any changes to the chassis tubes themselves. Does anyone have any exoerience / advice on this?
Thanks,
Dave

Yes the box fits nicely - I'll post some piccies when I get home if Virgin have fixed the broadband (whole area having problems for two days now)
I used a 2.0 rwd rear attached to the v6 front part of the 'box (a local gearbox company built this for me) the spider output connector changed to a flange and a prop company made a new unit to connect to the diff. I modified the gear linkage so that the stick comes srtaight up into the cockpit - the radio / dash stops it from being located at the optimum position. Also the box is a cable type and needs to be converted to hydraulic - the easy route would be for an internal concentric slave, but I chose the 'not so easy' option of fitting the original external slave. The box is stronger than the Type 9 but that should be ok if you have a standard V6 and the box is in good condition. If I did it again (which I won't) I would fit a TranX or Quaife kit into the Type 9 rather than fitting an MT75 - that way you can chhose the ratios too.

Would seem a lot easier than the work magpies listed above.

Hi Mick,
Some photos of your set up would be good - especially the clutch actuation set up.
I did consider a Tranex or Quiafe build into the type 9 casing until I saw the price. BGH geartech do similar builds for the type 9 at a more resasonable price but it's still very costly.
The engine is a 2.9 cosworth 24 valve.
I posted something re the dash mounted warning lights & wiring you asked about - Phillpott has also added his usual helpful hints and tips.
Cheers,
Dave
