NTL told me today that they are planning to increase the speeds of their broadbands as of the 12-March.

The 750KB is going to become 2MB
The 1.5MB is going to become 3MB

Great speeds, especially 2MB for £24 per month

However they said they are going to charge an admin fee of £25??? Why???

Aha! I was having a conversation with two of my new colleagues, who both worked in the local NTL call centre in retentions until December when it got shut down and moved oop north.

I was asking what the best deal was as I am on £24.99/750k as well. I was told to phone up to cancel and I would get upgraded FOC to 2mb for the same price.

Making the call this evening...

Let me know how you get on. I'm on a 750k connection as well

I've read, twice now, that you won't get upgraded automatically, but all you have to do is phone up and ask. Threatening to cancel should be unnecessary.

Edit: Looking forward to 3Mbit/s I suppose the upstream speed will still be 250kbit/s

Forgot about this until this evening.

I spoke to some unhelpful bint who told me it wasn't available for a while and no one knew when it would be upgraded.

Bear in mind that while charging you £25 for the pleasure they are putting in in fixed monthly caps on your downloads.

IE: Read the terms & conditions before you agree to anything cos they might even try to sign you up for another 12 months at the same time.

so the last post says the 2meg NTL upgrade is being capped at 5gig a month
that may sound a lot,but in real terms its not much.
one film can be 1.5 gig plus a few albums thats a big hole in your 5gig what do you think ??

5GB is sod all bandwidth.

Monitor Period 60 days, 01 hours, 04 mins
Upload 11491 Mbytes
Download 27194 Mbytes
Combined 38685 Mbytes

One film alone is 4.4GB!

I'd hate to have a cap on my broadband. I download pretty much every link i come across... must get through gigs and gigs of the stuff.

I'm on a 4mbps line with unlimited everything for £30/month. Bargain and works incredibly well They were a bit shaky prior to Xmas but now are superb.

Do you have a cable modem or set-top box? If a set-top box, which one?

I asked the engineer about the difference between set-top and cable modems, and he said the new Samsung set-top boxes (which I now have) were far superior. Maybe worth getting them switched?
