another chim that wont start

well my chim has been abit unloved recently with one thing and another, its been sat in dry storage and thought I would go start her up, left the battery on to charge for a couple of days and hooke dit up.

Turn key - ignition comes on - fuel pump primes - turn key - nothing, not even a click, however the fuel pump does start running again as if its trying to start.

Now I have a fairly new high torque starter fitted, new battery leads etc and no standard alarm and immob, just an after market toad system which has never given me any troubles.

so Im guessing earth or poor live feed to the starter?

You say you've had a new starter fitted. Has it started since fitting that new starter?
If the answer to that question is 'yes' then it could be a stuck starter solenoid. Give it a clout by poking a jack handle (or similar) down from above (unless you have easy access from underneath).

Sounds as if the battery is weak or the connections to it are poor if your confident the starter is ok.

Dont forget the starter circuit is disabled by the imobiliser- there are lots of storys about dodgy relays burning out as TVR wired the imobiliser incorrectly and overloaded the contacts. Something about bashing the dashboard in the vicinity as well!

why I mentioned the fact it doesnt have the original immob/alarm, its a very early 430 without central locking etc.

Starter has worked fine many times since being fitted, will try bringing a spare battery up to boost the battery just incase but its a very overpowered gel racing battery so should be fine, and usually it would at least give you a *click* from the solenoid.

sorted, had already hit the starter from underneath as access was tight on top, tried it from the top and its turning over again now.

Glad it's sorted.
If you had an old starter, I would have advised changing it, but it was probably just a stuck solenoid due to being laid-up for a while.
