F1, NASCAR, Indy500, F3000, BTCC, + WRC are popular but I like most the dakar rally.

Group B rallying, F1's turbo era, historic sports and saloons, BTCC.

Still watch modern F1 and WRC, but they don't have that 'throw away the rulebook' attitude of the '70s and '80s cars. As for Le Mans-style sports racers, in the '60s they were just as much fun to watch for the racing, but they looked like beautiful sculpture too, rather than the ugly malaise of skirts and spoilers they've mutated into.

NASCAR and Indy strike me as more interesting to drive in, as IMO they constitute the most boring styles of racing ever - same cars, driving round an oval for an academic number of laps, and the audience only get excited when someone crashes. Laguna Seca proves the point that American motorsport is as complex and exciting as the rest of the world's, but why do we have to get the stuff that looks like Police Camera Action?

Caterham racing. TVR Tuscans (alas no more).
Most clubbie racing. Historics.

At the top levels (especially F1) the racing has become tedious in the extreme.

Britcar. This seasons entry posted on their site today (www.eerc.co.uk) looks very interesting. Porsches, Marcoses, a Viper, Monaro, Falcon V8, Corvettes, a 350Z, 360s, numerous M3s and CSLs etc. Watched several rounds of this last year and the racing and general atomsphere was excellent. Can't wait for the 24 hours at Silverstone in September.

Aside from that, you can't beat a good clubbie! Preferably at a small circuit like Mallory or Snetterton that's not festooned with 12' high debris fencing!

Sorry, my specialised subject, could rabbit on about all night! Next contributor please...

Aussie / NZ v8 series (Holden / Ford) is quite good (like proper sounding touring cars). Apart fomr the close racing, the absolute crap race control makes it really interesting. Things like putting out a safety car flag and no car for a few laps... then in another race, dropping a checkered flag a lap too late - all the leaders radios were saying "well done lads" whe the race should have finished... as the 5th and 6th placed cars blatted past them and went on to win next time round.

Quite a grin - on Motors TV most days it seems.

Ginetta Championship (run with British GT and Formula 3 as well) - but then I'm biased!

Is the "new" Tuscan series an unofficial "clubbie" type series now.

In 2005 the TVR Tuscan Challenge Championship is being run by the BRSCC. As JamesC said, more details can be obtained from John Reid. His contact details are on the BRSCC website in the championships section.

British GT, Britcar and LMES are some of the most interesting championships to watch in 2005.

For Single Seaters the most interesting will be the TOCA Formula Renault Championship.

For pure enjoyment the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch.

Pretty much any sportscar series, so British GT, FIA GT, LMES, ALMS etc etc.

Caterhams always provide good racing, as do the psychotic Legends cars.

If you want to see something really different, get yourself to Oulton Park for the K&N Sports vs Saloons challenge. Where else can you see a 700bhp, 7 litre V8, rear engined Ford Sierra?

Virtually unrecognised in the UK too. No decent TV coverage you see. No media awareness equals no glory and no recognition.

I actually think that the genral public's awareness and knowledge of motor racing is at the lowest level it has EVER been.

There was a championship from oz on motorstv a year or so ago that had the widest range of cars I've ever seen Lambos, Monaros, Impraezas, hot hatches, touring cars, sports cars, etc... Believe it or not the racing was incredibly close despite the difference in car types. I dont know if its still going but it doesent seem to be on Motorstv any more .
Well that nascar and yes F1 are my faves.
