Well I have just been through getting my A4 serviced by Audi under their fixed price scheme. So car gets picked up and taken away, get the first phone call at around 11am, you need new discs and pads at the front are 80% worn, same for the back as 60% worn and the front c-links are worn, they want over a grand for that little lot but can't do the work as they have no parts. Then onto the tyres which have 3mm all so they quote for that but don't price the same tyres as fitted so another phone call for that. They can't measure tread depth if their lives depended on it as it is lower than they measured and the tyres need to changed but being 3mm you would think okay for a while.

When I booked it in I highlighted damage to the undertrays on the nearside, their tech says no damage which is bit odd as there is approx 12" of undertray missing, eventually finds it and I get a price for that but again no parts but hardly surprised at this. Eventually we get through all the phone calls and to the explanation of what they actually did, cue pollen filter not changed even though on the service schedule but not covered by fixed price service.

They also wash and valet the car despite being told not to, so this morning I find the car frozen solid and ice on the inside and outside of every bloody window as well.

I know Audi generally pretty crap but this was exceptionally bad even for them, the only positive in the whole thing was I didn't have to go and visit them.

Just need to find a good independent who will collect and deliver..

They always seem to quote for brakes on the assumption you don't want to wait for the warning light to come on telling you the pads are low and they definitely won't stretch to the next service (I'm giving dealers the benefit of the doubt here!) so if you're content the pads have life left in them and the discs aren't scored or otherwise end of life, I'd leave well alone.

Tyres either need doing or don't - if they are 3mm with a vernier caliper measurement then getting to end of life at this time of year as they'll be less able to clear standing water. Main dealers are rarely the best place to buy tyres though. Sounds like you're aware they need doing anyway.

The pollen filter is usually stated as not included - ridiculous I agree. I bought one from TPS and fitted it myself for half what I was quoted by the dealer. You just need a torch and some patience to access it under the passenger side of the dash. From memory a few screws to remove a bit of trim then the letterbox shaped cover slides to one side and the filter comes out into the cabin. Vacuum it out and fit the new one, being careful not to break the lugs on the cover.

Some tosser has jacked our S5 up close to the rear undertray and punched a couple of cosmetic holes in it - really annoys me, but not sure when it was done or by whom so just living with it.

I bought a mirror hanging 'don't wash this car' from a detailing website for the very reason you describe - pictograms are much better for the english as a 2nd language folk that have the misfortune to work at a main dealers valet bay.

We did the 2 year service plan last summer - it had the small service this year and will get plugs done next year as the big ticket item that makes the service plan worthwhile.

They've never told us anything else needs doing on the car, but I would take it away and check it unless the car was dangerous. I need to maintain the warranty (which is the Audi branded one) so main dealer service is the only option, but for friction material I'd just buy from TPS and fit. If it ever became a warranty issue unrelated to the brake part fitting all the bits will be OEM so they can hardly complain.

It really depends on the dealer - I've been using Audi Perth and could not be happier with their service - I make a special effort to come up from Edinburgh, driving past notoriously bad Audi Edinburgh just to make sure that I'm not being taken for a ride.

It would help if we knew where you were if you're seeking recommendations.

Thanks for the replies but I think it was more of a rant in frustration.

I think the bit that really annoys is the results of them jet washing the car, after doing my best to dry it out only the windscreen was iced up this morning but now there is a burning smell from the dash, assume the fan motor is now complaining of over-use.

I have used this particular dealer for several years and never had this sort of PITA experience with them so time to write a snottergram to them.

Isn't that called "Weather"?

How does jetwashing the outside of your car affect the amount of frost on the windscreen, inside or out?

The weather will form the ice but for this to happen there has to be source of moisture in the car. With sub zero nights before the car was serviced and jet washed there was no ice on the inside but after there is, the only significant source of water has been the jet washing as indicated by the doors being frozen shut. Due to the pressure exerted by the jet wash and no doubt used too close to the car some water will go past the door seals and into the car and provide the source of moisture. As the car is drying out there is less ice on the inside because there is less moisture inside.

Mines in for a minor service and MOT soon, when I booked it in I was told at 60,000 it needs a major service with a lot doing (it's done 52,000 now) and that will cost £360, not £160 for the interim service. I booked it in for the interim but I'm expecting a similar phone call saying brakes, wipers, etc need changing. Tw @s
