Off to Carnewal on Saturday to have sport mufflers fitted on my 997.

Are there any places to have lunch near him or are there things you can look at while you wait?

It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere so unless you bring another car you're better off just staying there. It won't take that long anyway - mine took 2 hours and that was with the clamps and bolts all rusted which needed to be drilled through.

His place has wifi, tea/coffee and lots of Porsche mags so I don't think you'd get bored.

Take some food with you. when I was there 18 months ago he gave me his waiting room upstairs. TV, Porsche mags, wifi and a big sofa to chill out on. I think he took around 2.5 hours to put mu mufflers on?

Just out of interest OP - what exactly are you having done? Is this where Carnewal 'lighten' or reduce the amount of silencing material in the two rear side mufflers?

I'd be keen on doing this one day myself, so any details on proces and pricing would be gratefully received, thank you!

That's exactly what I'm having done, I'll let you know my thoughts on it after the weekend.

Er I think that's a trade secret! But I don't think it's just a case of taking some of the stuffing out, the boxes sound a bit more refined than that. And it's not a Gundo style hack either.

Prices are on his website.

Good luck OP, you won't be disappointed!

Has anyone used Carnewal (or other specialists) to rebuild their silencers back to "OEM standard". My 996 GT3 exhausts are in good condition externally but the silencing has deteriorated - i'd like to get them rebuilt if possible so I can pass quieter noise tests!

Not especially relevant, but here's my 993 with Carnewal silencers on smile

Pops and rumbles on the overrun and everything smile

Errr.... certainly on a 993 that's exactly what it is, and cutting out the internal perforated pipe. Nicely welded back up, but curiosity got the better of me so I ground the welds off and dismantled the box to see what the 'trade secret' was!
Can't imagine looking at design cut away models, that the later boxes are any different.
Nice bit of marketing and service retaining the OEM look so fair play to the guys there.
