I'll post it here but please move if appropriate

Wife checked the credit card balance last night and noticed a random 1p charge from a local bar - restaurant . We use the bar on a regular basis but nearly always pay cash , last time she used a card there was probably 6 months ago when we stated out longer than normal .
The charge was made on Friday evening when I was in there but paying cash , I didn't have any cards with me .
Obviously we contacted the card provider but in wondering what to expect next ?
I'm thinking someone may be testing their luck ?
Does anyone have any ideas ? I know the bar owner and he is legit .
Cheers

Weatherspoons by any chance? I heard card details were compromised a few months ago. Might be worth just replacing the card

Had you open d a tab or anything like that? Maybe the bar staff didn't cancel the transaction in time (happened at a few times at pubs I worked at)

this. they take / swipe your card with a 1p on if you book a table and add food / drinks to it. when you settle by card, it all adds up. if you pay cash, they have your penny, robbing bds !

The table tab thing could be possible but unlikely , as I said , I know them so if I book or open a tab it's on trust , I've walked out owing money before , after asking if they want me to pop home and get some as I only live over the road .
Last time used a card was at least 6 months ago as I said , and that was for a large round after bumping into friends .
I'll pop over later and ask , good excuse for a mid week peev !
Just wanted to know if there's any new scams going on

I always was under the impression that if people want to use a stolen card they would try a very small transaction first to see if anyone noticed then move up to something bigger.

I once had a call from Natwest saying my card was supposedly used in a Chinese in London for 59p which definitely wasn't me.

Like I said before, just ring the car issuer and ask for a replacement. Personally, I think there's no point trying to get to the bottom of a missing penny. Just make sure there are no pending transactions you're unaware of
