Glasses bought online, specsavers, prescriptions.

I've always used specsavers for my eye tests for about 8 years now. I stopped buying their glasses about 4 years ago and bought them online since (mainly due to costs and types of frames being better)
I've had my current pair for about 18 months but wanted a change. Using a prescription supplied to me 12 months ago, I bought a pair that were horrible to look through. The left lense was like looking through a fishbowl in two specific parts, just to the left and right of the middle of where the eye would look when facing forward, although the right lens was fine.
I mailed a prescription copy to the online agent who said they checked them and all was fine.
So my suspicion is that maybe my prescription was wrong.
I'm tempted to go and pay for another test now, then compare the prescriptions and take it from there. Who is best? I've heard good things about boots. I see tesco do free eye tests for everyone (i'm not NHS eligible) but i've heard Tesco are s
te. I'm ideally after someone who will give me a good, comprehensive copy of my prescription, then not spend 30 minutes trying to sell me £300 D&G glasses.
If anyone could offer some advice or direction, that'd be great.

Do you have a special prescription in terms of varifocals or bi-focals etc?? Perhaps if its a tricky prescription the online place has screwed up?
If you just want to get the glasses checked, and have a new test any high street place will be able to do it.

If its all correct then get another eye test and check the prescriptions.
Just so you know where I'm coming from I don't touch online places with a bargepole, but not a simple prescription, but some people find them Ok, accepted.
Firstly assuming that the online agent is correct and the specs meet the ordered prescription, and assuming that you have some specs dispensed to that scrip and still happy with them.
Two immediate possibilities spring to mind, that there has been a transcription error between the prescription and the order, not unknown, I once had one lens a whole dioptre out. After the usual, oh give yourself time to adjust, they eventually found their mistake. But the problem was that initially they were checking the lens in the kit vs the order, and only a cross check with the eye examination records, all in the same outfit, did they find the error.
The second possibility is the fit of the lenses in the frames, and the fit of the frames to your face may not be presenting the optical centre of the lens correctly in front of your eye. Sadly more common than it should be, and it seems using online opticians just makes the measurements by untrained people more likely to introduce errors.
Are you able to move the lens around in front of the eye and find a position where it all looks OK? If so it's potentially a fitting problem.
Suspect you've not much choice other than to get a new test, see how your scrip has changed from this one, and perhaps you can ask the optician to offer an opinion on your purchase. Obviously there will be bias / agenda in that reply but you are aware of it.

I used boots the optician as they do it all properly and can't afford to spoil their reputation. I then used a ph'er owned online glasses place to buy my frames and lenses
