rocker box removal

Hi, Just tried to take off my driver side rocker box, all went well till I tried to lift it off to find it was jamming under the end of the fuel rail is this normal ,if so what do I have to do to clear it . cheers Keith

Yes that's normal. It should be possible to fiddle it out. Last time I did it I had the fuel lines removed, that could give you an extra few mm

^^^THIS^^^ The heater pipes can be a pain too on that side.

From Memory:

1. Remove power steering resevoior from plenum mount (if PS fitted)
2. Remove HT leads at plug ends
3. Undo 2 fuel pipes, one olive compression fitting & one petrol clip
4. *Remove heater hoses to heater pipes front end*
5. Undo rocker cover bolts
6. Remove rocker cover

Nuumber 4 is not strictly nessesary but does make the job much easier and stops you scratching the rocker cover on the heater pipe brackets*

Replace rubish cork gasket with new proper lipped rubber one, glue to rocker cover with superglue so it doesn't fall off when you're refitting the rocker cover, also pop a tiny dab of superglue on the four bolt holes in the rubber gasket as the little steel strengthening collars have a habit of falling out into the engine.

Use 1.5" long 1/4" UNC grub screws on the two inner bolt holes to create locating studs as it makes re-fitting the rocker covers so much easier.

Use flanged nuts to secure your new inner studs.

Use 1.25" long 1/4" UNC alen cap head set crews for the two outer fixings.

Refit components and pipes as a reversal of the above operations 1-6.

Bleed cooling system if heater hoses removed, job done.

A good mod which may already be done is to put the heater pipes through the middle under the intake manifold which makes this job easy.

Cover the back of the alternator as the cover needs to be moved forward when removing and could short out the wiring.

Make sure you have replacement gaskets, it is easy to damage the existing ones on the rockers when trying to fiddle the cover off.
